I took my pastel boxes out this week and I decided to give them a go. Since I have been experimenting a lot lately, I wanted to see what would happen if I made a painting using only pastels.
I really love to see the boxes open and all the colors waiting to be used, and believe me, I have collected a lot of them in the time that I have been painting in mixed media. Here are some of the brands I used to create Little Red Riding Hood. Panpastel, Rembrandt, Sennelier and Conté à Paris are among the brands I love to use.
It’s a very challenging experience, because I am so used to work with liquid medium you can apply and blend in with a brush, and the physics and the feeling of the material are completely different to paint.
It also made me realize that working with pastels is much more drawing than painting, and it required me to pay a lot of attention to what I was doing.
But, in the other hand, I can add extremely fine detail to the eyes and faces of my girls and the colors blend in a very subtle way, I love the dreamy effect I can achieve while keeping the eyes full of life.
Definitively, I am going to keep using more of the pastels for full paintings instead of just highlights and details!
You can see more photos of the painting in detail on my online shop, just click on the image and it will take you to the detailed pics and the page where you can adopt her if you wish to take her home to live with you.
